our lady of sorrowsnovember 2021
acrylic on canvas 16 x 20 in captured on a canon eos digital rebel xs this piece was inspired by byzantine religious icons, as well as my own catholic upbringing. although i am no longer religious, the art & iconography has stayed with me all these years. the title is taken from a specific iteration of the virgin mary, who represents & heals pain & melancholy in devotional circles. the arrows in my heart, the gash on my palm, and the petals falling off the roses are all symbolic of the emotions i was experiencing at the time this was made. |
pierrot
october 2022
iphone 12 camera a traditional "pierrot" appears in the comedian dell'arte tradition of italy. they've come to symbolize sadness & the performative nature of life. i was one for halloween. made that cool little hat myself out of cardboard, fabric, felt, & pom-poms. the shadow behind my figure has the potential to act as a voyeuristic spectator, watching every move i make. |
"where does it go?"2013 / 2017 / 2020 / 2023
self portraits on various cameras i've always been interested in the portrayal of the self. growing up having a bunch of dinky little cameras (& a nicer one nowadays), i've gotten the chance to capture different phases of my life. pictured here are four different people with four different identities and lives. |
